I currently work as a Physician Associate for Darwen Healthcare in general practice. I have had a varied career with jobs in banking and retail prior to moving into healthcare. I completed my undergraduate education with a Bsc in Radiotherapy from the University of Liverpool in 2014 and worked as a Radiotherapist for 18 months before beginning my PA studies.
The PA role was an attractive proposition - the opportunity to practice medicine whilst maintaining a good work life balance and to not be confined to one speciality for my career. My Pg Dip was completed at UCLAN in PA studies between 2016-2018, which was certainly the most challenging course I have undertaken, and was not easy with a young family. I graduated with a distinction and since then I have worked in primary care.
I believe the PA role is crucial to healthcare models of work in the NHS, and as an ambassador I hope to see the role become a normal part of any MDT. In order for the role to flourish it is vital that PAs are of the highest quality, and I will endeavour to work with North-West universities, trusts and community practices to promote quality in PA selection, studies and post-qualification courses as well as finding new ways to deliver a healthier population through PAs such as partnerships with local public health bodies. I am excited to begin my work as an ambassador and will strive to move the profession forward.
